The spill, the drop, the pour, the gesture, the line, the spray, the flat shape, the wet-into-wet and the painterly drawing exist in a dream-like synthetic internal landscape. My paintings can be seen as in action or motion, flat angular shapes floating in an underwater-like space with gestural brushwork swimming through the canvas. Through gestural abstraction my paintings create a dialog of popular culture, critical theory and process painting or what I call my cosmetic alchemy. My work has always had a tension between the seen and unseen; the overt and the sublime. My paintings have become more subtle, refined and mysterious. I aspire to transform ordinary painting materials through my “alchemical” process into objects, which hopefully engage, inspire and inform the viewer’s experience.
